The Bridge District Project is a multi-faceted development project that encompasses affordable housing development, new parks, and improved infrastructure. It has also provided space for a future streetcar expansion.

In 2015, West Sacramento passed bonds for levee improvements and flood control. The Southport Levee on the Sacramento River is getting improvements that put it in line with state flood control requirements, in addition to measures all along the river in flood-risk areas.
